Water treatment (INJECTA)

DRINKING WATER

The water purification is a physico-chemical process that consists of removing contaminants from raw water to obtain water suitable for normal domestic consumption, for irrigating fields or for industrial uses (e.g. for use by food factories).

Article 80 of Legislative Decree 152/2006 (Environmental Regulations) stipulates that fresh surface water, in order to be used or intended for potabilisation  are classified into categories A1, A2, A3, depending on their physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics. Category A1 waters are the best, while category A3 is the worst, and more stringent and invasive treatments are required for these waters. Depending on their category, surface waters must undergo the following treatments:

▪ Category A1: simple physical treatment and disinfection
▪ Category A2: normal physical and chemical treatment and disinfection
▪ Category A3: physical and chemical hard treatment, refining and disinfection

WASTE WATER PURIFICATION

Purification allows foreign substances or pollutants to be removed from water. The main actions are mechanical, chemical-physical and biological.

Water purification can concern:
- treatment of urban waste;
- treatment of industrial effluents

Some of the results that can be achieved are: removal of ammonia, nitrogen, sulphur, metals in solution and elimination of phosphates. All processes involved in the purification cycle are none other than the same as those that normally occur in nature, but maximised in speed and yield within the purification plant.

CHEMICAL DOSING

Increasingly technologically advanced industrial processes require very precise and accurate dosing of chemicals. Every parameter must be kept under control through advanced instrumentation and dosing systems.

FERTIGATION

Under the term  fertigation   refers to a technique that allows fertilisers to be distributed together with irrigation water. This technique became more popular with the spread of micro-irrigation  and/or  drip irrigation is preferably applied with the localised irrigation and/or with the  sub-irrigation. It can also be done with other irrigation systems, but for better fertiliser distribution the above systems are preferred.

The distribution of fertilisers in water improves the uptake of nutrients by plants and at the same time makes water use more efficient. In practice, fertigation achieves a synergetic effect between water and fertiliser.

PHOSPHATE REMOVAL

An increase in algae growth is one of the consequences of the high  phosphate concentration.

Phosphates are removed by chemical precipitation through chemicals with a coagulant function. Accurate dosing is essential to ensure a correct result.

LEGIONELLA

Legionella finds its ideal environment in conditions of stagnation and the presence of fouling or sediment inside pipes or storage tanks. Under these conditions, it is important to treat the water with chemicals to ensure the elimination of the bacterium.
